Galatea’s freedom…
Originally conceived for the night-time segment of a high-profile live show, Galatea is a cyberpunk-infused 3D character built to evoke both emotional intensity and visual tension. The piece was designed to sync with a dark electronic score, heightening its visceral impact in a performance setting.
Developed from a client brief that emphasized cyberpunk themes with a hint of retro-futurism, Galatea draws influence from late-80s aesthetics particularly the bold, saturated tones of VHS packaging and analog tech design. The result is a hybrid form: part raw circuitry, part synthetic flesh, portraying a humanoid figure in the act of tearing away its artificial skin to reveal the exposed mechanical core beneath.
Care was taken to incorporate human-like anatomical elements in the skull and eyes, suggesting a synthetic being grappling with identity and self-awareness. However, the design steers clear of full bio-mechanical tropes, opting instead for a more theatrical, stylized blend of horror, nostalgia, and futurism.
This project is a study in contrast flesh vs. machine, control vs. breakdown and was rendered with a strong focus on lighting, texture fidelity, and material storytelling to match the audio-visual experience of the show.
